Ya ive said before as long as we get through the whole waste plotline ill be pretty happy, dumais wells and the end of book 9 ill be ecstatic.
Since the story has a conclusion in the books, the show runners should be able to cutout the unnecessary parts or move through them quickly.

And there is a LOT that can be streamlined.
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
SPOILERS
Elayne's whole coronation stuff. Perrin and Faile's journeys. Honestly, and this will be very very controversial, I think the Seanchan could be borderline eliminated.
The White Tower civil war could be shortened to one season. The foresaken could be paired down to just a few.

I think the biggest reason is that you need them for the adam. For a lot of stuff you could just use another nation to facilitate what the Seanchan do. But if the adam exist on that continent - most of the power dynamics with Aes Sedai and the White Tower wouldn't make sense. YOu need them as the big army of force weilders - one that Rand can't steamroll with his ashaman, etc. so that Rand has to make a deal with the devil in order to facilitate the last battle. And if you have that army as existing on this continent already, a lot of the world-building and power dynamics doesn't make sense.
PLUS if this thing takes off I would love to see the fall of Seanchan / Towers of Midnight storyline fleshed out - could potentially be a spinoff show or something like that.
They probably will reduce the forsaken some, I think you need a good handful, since we have so many powerful good characters come in to play. The Shara appearance will either be written in another way, or not happen and Demandred (I think that is who it was) will probably be morphed into another character / maybe Taim.

Another thing you could definitely shorten:
SPOILERS
The long arse Shaido plot. Have them be a half season enemy and then end them.

What part?
Rhuidean through Dumais Wells isn't a half season I don't think.
After that Shaido plot line will definitely be reduced naturally with reduction of the hunt for faile.

So little of substance happens in books 8-11 you could basically make it one season.
Posted on 9/18/20 at 6:36 pm to auyushu
ya, 8 - 11 really should have been 2 books, which would have been awesome actually, just needed better editing really.
so that fits the 1 season / 2 books model

Is this series just as compelling as Game of Thrones?

If you are looking for something as gritty as ASOIAF, then no. It's a different style of book, and very high magic.
At it's peak it is an elite series though, books 3-7 are up there with almost any book series in fantasy. It hits a lull in book 8, books 9 and 10 are straight bad, picks up in book 11, and then Brandon Sanderson finished the series strong in the last three books.

This was THE fantasy series before the GOT Tv series came out. Put it this way: GRRM needed blurbs from Robert Jordan on the cover to help sell his first few books.
But they could not be more different. WOT is much more high fantasy and less “gritty”. Jordan wasn’t trying to subvert the paradigm like Martin.
The first book parallels Fellowship of the Ring a lot, intentionally so. RJ thought he needed that to sell.
It does divert greatly as the series goes on. It has a HUGE number of characters and gets a bit darker as it goes on, while still maintains some innocence. It’s long and sprawling with a lot of deeply developed characters and a very defined magic system.
There’s no cursing, main characters don’t often die brutal deaths. Sex happens in general off page. There are gay characters but it’s sort of hidden at times behind code language.

Yeah, we definitely knew it would be given they cast a pretty known Spanish actor as Logain who is in relatively high demand, AND Rafe said flat out that Logain would be a much much bigger character in the show. Which is something I support.
I saw the report about the Liandrin stuff but didn't actually see the lines and whatnot.

Yeah, it really wouldn't make sense to wait to show Logain and Taim later in a tv show. Much easier to give their back story and explain who they are bringing them in early. They could actually do some cool scenes showing how both of them get brought down at the same time Rand declares himself at Falme.

regarding Taim
SPOILERS
I think they go the Taimandred route, as RJ clearly originally intended (based on some old notes of his). And then everyone immediately figured it out. Bao the Wyld is cool in the books but to introduce him with no context in a TV show in the last season wouldn't work at all.

One other thing based on some past script read leaks;
SHOW SPOILERS
There is a lot of speculation that Rand and Egwene will be an actual couple at the beginning of the series. I think this makes A LOT of sense in their interactions, diversion going forward, ultimate conflict, etc.
Makes total sense and I can see that working better on screen.

This isn't even really a stretch - I feel like they are presented as a couple, just in a completely different culture that would be difficult to translate on TV.
The Taim / Demandred insert is easy and makes a lot of sense.
Logain has one of the most interesting character arcs and backstory in the series. I hope it is just sticking with him more in certain situations so we get to see what he already is doing off-page and not inserting him into other storylines though.

Correct. Making them an actual adds to the drama.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW:
Has there been any word or speculation on how they are handling the "tameness" of the books in regards to the sex stuff?
I had thought it would be a good idea to have Rand and Egwene already together as opposed to Rand remaining a virgin till Aviendha like 4 books in. Though I suppose Rand and Egwene could be a couple waiting on sex.
But anyway, I feel like making Rand less of a Clark Kent Smallville-esque virginal farmboy would go a long way in helping add some sizzle to the show without losing anything really.
On a related note, I also hope they have Rand and Selene together before the Lanfear reveal. It would add credence to Rand's worries of turning into LTT, and it makes Moiraine's ultimate sacrifice much more justifiable. One of the worst parts of that stretch of books, Moiraine's sacrifice comes off as really stupid since we see firsthand how little Rand's in danger of being seduced by Lanfear.

SPOILERS:
Personally I don't really want a bunch of random sex stuff added just for fun.
I wouldn't mind Rand and Selene - not sure about Rand and Egwene though as it could change their character dynamic down the line, but it could be done well enough if handled correctly. I think there is enough there off-page that they could bring more to the forefront without changing characters. I don't really want them to throw in random GoT whorehouses and stuff or changing characters.
Matt already sort of fits the mold for a ramp up moreso than Rand, I'd imaging with the expansion of the Logain storyline that he would also play more of a role in that regard. I just don't want them to change Rand's character traits in service of showing more sex as there are other characters to do that in the early seasons and it is fairly present off-page in the later seasons.
PLOT SPOILERS BELOW
I do agree that him and Selene together would work well though. But IMO Moiraine didn't sacrifice herself for fear of Rand being seduced by Lanfear. I don't think Rand could bring himself to kill a woman at that point, and I also think Moiraine was told she had to do that as one of her 3 answers from the doorway ter'angreal in the Stone of Tear (again probably due to Rand's inability to bring himself to kill a woman). That was why she was so desperate to get him to listen to her in the time leading up to that moment - because she knew she was running out of time.
That is partway why I think the showrunners have to take a lot of care if changing early components of the story or their mindset - because it can have a rippling impact where later pivotal moments might not have the same weight or really make as much sense for the characters.
For example, Rand's unwillingness to kill women drives his character development in many cases, both in his actions and his theme of having to become "harder" as he always says in his internal monologues as more and more gets stacked up on his conscious, provides a real visceral moment at Dumais Wells, etc.
