Oklahoma's stupidest mistake of this century was letting Venables go while retaining Mike Stoops. Boy, did that ever backfire a little. Venables and Riley would be wrecking CFB every year...

Another factor no one has mentioned is the fact that his son was a freshman (I think a linebacker) on Clemson's team this year. He has apparently indicated he's not going anywhere till his son graduates.

Dabo will make the inevitable move to AL and Venables will take over.
Why do people think Dabo will leave Clemson for Alabama?
Thinking it isnt a possibility is just foolish. The connection is to strong to not think it's possible. It'll be a strong push, as currently he's the only one that can potentially keep what saban has been doing.
Yes lots of reasons for dabo not to leave, but no other school has that draw for him like bama.
Could definitely be what Venables is waiting for. May know something or not. He'll be there until his son leaves, so who knows. Good to see a coordinator do this though. Shows how important it is for a HC to find a pair of solid long term coordinators to bring stability.

Apparently he hates making more than $2 million per year.

If I was him, I'd never leave. He doesn't want to be a head coach

After people said the same thing about Aranda and he emphatically denied wanting to be a career DC, I'd have to hear Venables say he doesn't want to be a HC.
He has options. He doesn't need to rush into anything, certainly not some lower tier P5 job like Texas Tech.

If the guy loves coaching defense and is making mid 2s to ONLY worry about defense then that's an incredible gig. Not everyone is cut out or wants to do all the bullshite involved in being a HC.

I believe he will be there at least for a few more years being that his son is a LB on the team.....unless a blue blood program or the NFL come calling
