The state and image of the program pre Saban does not equal the program that O inherited even if CLM left holes in the roster.

Very true. But the results in 2002 and 2004 left a lot to be desired. That team Saban took to Blacksburg to open the '02 season was one of the sorriest, poorest prepared teams LSU has ever had to open a season.

The Alabama 2011 to present Saban is NOT the LSU Saban.

Of course he’s gotten better, over time, but if he stayed here there’s no reason to think he wouldn’t have done similar things, but this trying to compare the situation ls like they should be exactly alike is beyond stupid. LSU was trytto build a program Alabama was in a much better starting point. But his first year at Bama was worse than any year he had at LSU, you know what that means? NOTHING His 4th year there was his 2nd worst, the only year besides the first the only year he lost more than 1 game in the regular season

You’re missing the point. Saban doesn’t give a crap about the record the first couple of years. He is recruiting like crazy, building the statewide and region wide networks, building relationships with coaches, getting facility improvements funded. He’s also establishing the culture, running off idiots like the Bootys, and building the business ethic he is known for.

The reason you think he’s a different guy since 2011 is because that’s when he was getting the program established. Had he stayed at LSU for five more years we would have turned into a championship factory just like Bama.

This is something I’d expect someone under 25 to say. 2002 we didn’t have the depth and too many injuries. Still almost win the west.

2004 we got creamed at UGA in a double revenge spot. The other loss was at Auburn, who went undefeated, on a penalty that was literally only called that 1 time and on a Hail Mary in a bowl after he quit and probably shouldn’t have been coaching in the first place.

That's not entirely fair. I was in Blacksburg and it was awful but that was a tough season opener with a young team and quarterback/offense who had not yet found himself. Plus, Mauck's injury in the Florida game killed a promising season. Coupled with Damien James dismissal.
'04 was a different matter. Saban did not manage the team well after losing so many key players. Spears and Vincent came to fall camp without being in top shape and Saban/Jimbo mismanaged the Qbs.

Saban became a better coach after his stay in the NFL. More importantly, he had scratched the NFL itch and wasn't always looking for his next gig/goal. He was even more focused and learned to manage success.

Possible but lets remember that Va Tech already had a game under their belt and that made a huge difference..........
