Because they want a big symbolic middle finger to the folks who keep agriculture afloat but aren't interested in practical, fiscally sound solutions. They don't care more about the opioid epidemic than everyone else, and the way they're linking it to the wall debate is retarded

Except that I think a monolithic wall is a waste of money and there are better ways to secure the border.
