It' s great that this thread has gone on so long with mostly civil discussion from people with different points of view.
This is a good and important point. Whenever a coach succeeds so greatly, a lot of people think everything about him needs to be emulated for another coach to be successful. I think the thing that made Saban so good was his X's & O's football IQ and his attention to detail and ability to convey that in his "program". To some extent the latter part involved his frequent a-hole behavior, but a lot of the a-hole behavior was just a separate effect of his personality.
