The 80's had to have been the worst time in history for automobile design but the 90's had a lot of stuff going for it.
I don't think you see the restoration of these models yet because the ones that you would want to restore where bought and taken care of more so than in the past do to the understanding that value would exist for them in the future.
Obligatory here's mine from the 90's pic:

I'd like to get my hands on a 1987 BMW 535i (e28) manual 5 speed with the m20 engine and restore it. That engine could not be killed and that car was so fast.

80’s and 90’s don’t feel “classic” to me. It just feels like you’re poor and drive a shitty car.
I guess you don’t see them on the road too much anymore, but I remember in the 2000’s poor people were driving shitty 90’s cars.
So they just don’t feel “classic” to me.
Plus, cars from the 50’s were unique. Lots of chrome, white wall tires, unique rims, unique emblem badges, etc. You don’t see that stuff anymore.
In the 80’s, there is nothing special about those cars. Plastic trim, hubcaps, etc. It’s just shittier versions of today’s cars.

I really want to restore my 97 Land Cruiser, but i think it is a bit early to realize full value upon restoration.

I was wondering about something like the Pontiac Fiero Gt. Crap car trust me I know. My brother had one. They stopped making it after 4 or 5 years, but it had a unique look at the time.

I've always thought that a second generation MR2 would be fun to own.
