I would say its kind of even both ways. Both of them had to make some drastic changes in their mindset.


As far as the message of The Lion King, I dont hold it against Simba for running/running from his problems. At the age he was and what he was potentially up against, there werent many options for him. And Timon and Pumbaa didnt face his fears obviously, but they were a good influence on him and that was exactly what he needed at the time, a friend and some comfort.

I thought I was %100 sure what my choice was going to be but this is harder than I thought. Debating this want me to do an all-time great villain tournament
These both bring the heat in that category.

I'm sorry, who made this statement? He wasn't running from "his problems"... he was running from certain death had he stayed. Now, it could be argued that as soon as he was full grown, he should have returned, but how? With what plan? It wasn't until Nala found him and she could pass the message onto the other lionesses that they could take down the hyenas and Scar. He would have lost otherwise.
