The senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank in Washington, DC has said the departure of Secretary of Defense James Mattis may mean modernization for the weapons industry.
quote:

With his exit from the role on February 28, Mark Cancian has guessed new leadership may utilize the fiscal year 2020's $750 billion budget to fund new weapons programs, opting to terminate legacy systems rather than continue to fund upgrades, as is planned to be done with 2019 dollars. Cancian, who worked on budget strategy, war funding, force development and procurement programs at the Office of Management and Budget and in the Pentagon, shared his perspective in an op-ed for Forbes, published on Friday.
quote:

Cancian also talked about the Space Force and how its future is likely secure, no matter who takes Mattis' position, even though the Air Force is against its creation. 'Since the president has directed its establishment, DOD has little choice but to comply whoever the secretary is. The fate of the Space Force will be decided in the Congress, not in the Pentagon,' he wrote.
quote:

Whether that promised funding will hold up in a soon-to-be Democratic controlled House of Representatives though, is another story, Cancian wrote. And what will be done with the money is the topic up for debate now, with Mattis' forthcoming departure.

I guess the last paragraph in the OP means re: 'what will be done with the funding,' is that somehow? the democrats could stop let's say the new space force, i e....modernization?

It really sounds like old school Pentagon deep state is out. No more ME troops on the ground. I truly hope they don't try to JFK POTUS. And Trump has always called for this as far back as HWBush; so it is not pandering to Russia as the CNN type loons are saying...

Mattis is a dinosaur throwback to American imperialism. Good riddance.

Haha, Trump is forcing him out on the first. Deputy Patrick Shanahan will be acting secretary.

And now we know why President Recep Erdogan was desperate to frame the Kashoggi matter. The mainstream media are either stupid or they don't want the true story out there, or both-- Trump is brilliant.

Erdogan may be a repugnant creature, but he didn’t frame anyone (this time).

“Modernization”

It doesn’t matter what the Military uses to fight at Mattis’s level. It’s about strategy and and knowing your enemy. It’s not about the modernization of technology or weapons.

Having a Military mind is more important than any new tech. That is what other parts of the Military is for. They are constantly advising the Secretary and he advises the president.

Just like Saban could coach in any Era and still win.

Mattis leaving means that Trump is left alone to his worst instincts. Trump has absolutely no knowledge of anything of substance as its relates to defense, our allies, the world etc.
Trump gets his briefings from Hannity and the rest of the morons at Fox. He's fired folks who are smarter, more knowledgable, and better suited to their jobs.
Mattis was the last adult in the room. There is no way to put a positive spin on this.

"I'll have the best people." LMAO.

Yet he’s consistently right when all the “experts” have been consistently wrong for decades. Weird huh?

Our experts are over educated morons with next to no understanding of the outside world.

The new meritocracy that emerged in the 60s and has continued through today simply doesn’t work. It promotes idiots.

Wasn’t Mattis the one that suggested trump approve the trillion diplomat omnibus bill because there was a triple secret placeholder for finding a southern border wall?

Do you (and people like JohnnyU) never stop and read your posts before hitting that 'submit' button?

You both sound ridiculous. You think Trump is now solely in charge of the military?
