I currently have the V20 and use Nova launcher. I'm looking at the new phones and trying to decide which to get. Last time I was looking at phones, it came down to the Pixel and V20, and I've been happy with the V20. It's durable, has a great camera with manual settings, has the second screen, etc.

Looking at the 2 phones, Pixel 3XL has a nice camera and V40 has 3. I want the phone with the best combination of durability, camera quality, battery life, expandable memory, and overall function/reliability. I don't care about gaming.

Which would you choose? Also, is Nova still the preferred launcher?

The pixel is going to have OS update support longer term than anything from LG (which is known for dropping update support sooner rather than later).

I have both, and I am going to return both. But the V40 is super underrated. Great screen, great build quality, quad dac is amazing. LG Camera software freaking blows.

V40 handles it's notch WAY better than the pixel.

Already chose Pixel 3 XL - I use the stock launcher. The drama queens about the notch are just that - I don't even notice it.

Camera quality, currently, is the best in a smartphone - because of Google's software, mainly.

Pixel 3 easily. Best software, best camera, will get updates way longer.

I had a LG V30+ for a few days and I wasn't impressed. I considered the Pixel 3, but ultimately chose the Samsung S9+ and have no regrets. If I had to choose between the two you listed, I'd definitely go with the Pixel 3. So far, we've given LG a try twice and have returned both items in favor of Samsung. One was a TV (ended up with the Samsung KS8000) and the other was the phone. I'm just not impressed with LG's products compared to others.

I'm still rocking the original Pixel XL. Running pure Android is the way to go imo. I don't care for all of the skins and bloatware the other manufactures put on them.

What is the difference between pure Android and the V40? Especially if you are using Nova launcher? I've had the Note 4 and the V20. I liked both. Battery life went downhill quite a bit after about 18 months

I haven't owned a non Nexus or Pixel in a number or years but all other Android manufacturers lay their custom skin over the OS.

Samsung's is called TouchWiz. The also include their own custom apps that you sometimes can't delete. LG has their own UI as well. This is part of what slows down their ability to release updates in a timely manner. That and carrier delays.

I just prefer the stock OS.

I was on Android for a while, since the original Droid Razr (2011 maybe?). Last Android was a pixel XL 2, and it was a good phone, but had its issues. Bluetooth was terrible about dropping devices, screen had blue shift and black smearing at low brightness, and a few others that were not as much of a deal breaker.

Made the switch to iPhone X this year on the Black Friday deal at Verizon. I don’t regret it one bit. I was totally anti iPhone since about the iPhone 4, but Apple really got with the times from the X on. App support is better for EVERYTHING, hardware can’t be beat, and iMessaging really is way better than standard MMS texts (doesn’t compress photo or video).

Also, the Apple Watch is probably the most revolutionary tech device since I got my first smartphone. It really changes the way you use your phone.
