Sigh. It's hard. We used to swap back and forth every year but now we do Christmas Eve at my parents (tradition when I was a kid) adn Christmas Day at his family (it's his moms birthday). It works well for us but when our kids get married/have families, not sure what will happen.

I like my moms attitude -- the holiday is when you make it and there have been years when we moved out get together due to a brother working 7/7. I get your parents being upset but with a death in the family this year, I'd hope that I would understand.

Ultimately, a husband leaves his mother and has his own family so ...
