I always thought that Tyson threw the fight

Why?
His thoughts: “I was fricking those Japanese girls like it was eating grapes,” he later said, before adding grandiosely, “You thought I was Caesar, you thought I was Caligula when I was out there in Japan.”

I meant watching the fight as a 17 yr old kid. I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

Only thing I would put in the same ballpark is NC st over Houston

What's bigger?
In a single game/match? USC Stanford was like 75-1.

Da Fuq?
Did you see Tyson at the end of the 8th?
That's not how you throw a fight.
Throwing a fight is not getting your arse pummeled all night long and fighting to the death.
He almost won with a late round devastating uppercut.
Now Sonny Liston, that's how you throw a fight. You go down early without a punch connecting.

This match was a staple on old espn classic.
Things I remember most about the fight was not the knockout, but just how quiet the arena was, and of course that damn latex glove.
It was great watching old Espn classic ringside with Bert Sugar, Teddsy Atlas and Co. coment about how ill prepared Tysons corner was and that they had idea what they were doing.

I can't get over the glove thing. That's an incredible amount of hubris.

Can we talk about the fact one judge scored it a draw while another scored it in favor of Tyson? Only one guy had it in favor of Douglas.
Boxing is corrupt as frick.

What’s the glove story? I was too young to remember anything about the fight

They apparently weren't prepared for anything to happen in Tyson's corner. Didn't have ice packs or endswell. Ended up putting water in a glove instead.

By Round 5, Tyson's eye is closing. His camp is frantic. They didn't even bring the standard device to treat swollen eyes. We get the now famous scene of Tyson's trainer treating his eye with a latex glove, filled with ice.
I didn’t remember that either. Was wondering why they were holding a water balloon on his eye. Tyson’s cornermen were a joke.

It didn't even have ice in it. It was cold water or whatever haha.
