Honestly, seeing the number of people who have voted Fantasia over Coraline and Fox and the Hound over Ratatouille makes me lose all faith in the M/TV board. There's no way you could have seen Fox and the Hound in the last 20 years and vote it over a top 2-3 Pixar movie, just no way.
Fox and the Hound is my favorite animated movie of all time.

Having young girls, I watch a shite load of cartoons. I have seen Fox and the hound more than twice in the last five years. I have seen the sequel twice in the last 6-7.
Yes it was a sentimental vote. Rat is a great movie. Though neither will win it all so I picked MY favorite. I abstained from American Tale v TS3 for same reason.

I dislike Fantasia and Coraline. I have no need to watch either. Fantasia is at least something different.

Napoleon, you’re breaking my balls here. Outside of the Aristocats, the Rescuers (the sequel is far superior), and the Black Cauldron, The Sword in the Stone is the most forgetable animated Disney film of the 1900s. I don’t hear anyone ever bringing up this movie.
I just don’t see how anyone can possibly defend The Sword in the Stone being a better movie than Princess Mononoke. Maybe if you’re under 10, but Mononoke is a fricking masterpiece. It’s at worst in the Top 5 greatest animated films ever made. Granted Princess Mononoke isn’t as funny (although Jigo has some great dark humor) and isn’t for the kiddies, but it has it beat in every other regard. I bet a very sizable portion of the people voting for Sword in the Stone have never seen Mononoke and are just blindly voting for it since they’ve seen it.

I feel "greatest" is an emotional opinion. People get different emotional responses from movies and nostalgia and historical importance should matter. If not, then you could cut out every non Pixar movie. In fact I'll be shocked if a non Pixar movie wins.
Posted on 12/11/18 at 9:42 pm to OMLandshark
real answer. i just don't like Japanese animation.
Akira is the only Anime I ever really wanted to see again.
I saw Monoke once and don't remember it much. Like Ponyo.
It may be a better movie, but this is all personal opinions.
Sword in the Stone is great. Sure the animation doesn't hold up, but it was the first introduction to Arthurian Legend to most of us.

Lots of votes for The Brave Little Toaster over Spirited Away. I find it hard to believe people voting this way have seen Spirited Away which is a masterpiece. Honestly, if Brave Little Toaster wins that match, you can flush this whole contest.

Princess Mononoke changed animation and film way more than The Sword in the Stone. You can make a great argument for Spirited Away being better and more important, but 50 years from now, no one will be watching the Sword in the Stone (hell I don’t think they do now). Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away or many other Disney and Pixar classics are sticking around. Nostalgia is way too subjective. No one would give a frick about the Sword in the Stone if it was released today, but audiences would still be floored by Mononoke.

Exactly, but at least the Brave Little Toaster is actually really good. The Sword in the Stone is just mediocrity and people are blinded by nostalgia and in all likelihood have never seen Miyazaki’s work. Both of those films are Top 5 in animated history as far as I’m concerned. If neither Mononoke or Spirited Away make it on to the next round, this poll is a joke.

I can rattle off quite a few Disney movies from the 1900s that are much more forgettable.
Make Mine Music
Fun and Fancy Free
The Great Mouse Detective
(whose really seen the Adventures of Icahbod and Mr Toad?)
I loved Ducktales, anyone remember the movie? I don't.
Or the Doug movie?
I liked the Goofy movie, but I doubt it's ever brought up.

How come people who really like Anime get so upset about someone not voting for "their" movie.

Those don’t really count.

That’s way more memorable. Rattigan was a fantastic villain. The clock tower scene, holy shite that was awesome. Really all I have to say is Vincent Price on why the movie is better, and that ends the conversation.

Ok I’ll give you that one.

Those aren’t under the same Disney banner. It’s like saying Planes is Pixar.

Because the rules are you have to have seen both films. I’m willing to bet that maybe two posters that have voted against Mononoke or Spirited Away have seen them. It’s an absolute joke to compare mediocrity that can be edited down 25 minutes over a film that carefully considers each frame that goes into the film and none of it can be removed.
The Sword in the Stone are a bunch of loosely related stories that could be anything and hardly move the plot forward whatsoever. Every move Ashitaka and the characters take in the film is deliberate, moves the plot forward, and is always looking to establish the characters at all times. What do we learn about any of these characters in the Sword in the Stone? They aren’t developed and don’t feel like real people. All Arthur has to do is pull the god damn sword out and everyone is pretty much the exact same as the start of the story. That is weak storytelling.
Anyone who has seen PM would be insulted that these two movies are being rationally compared.

And to be fair, I don’t like Ponyo either. It’s great to look at, but the story is creepy as frick with two 5 year olds falling in love. That is just fricked up. 5 year olds don’t know how to wipe their own arse nevertheless recognize their soul mate. Should have at least aged up the characters a few years.

There’s no fricking way you’ve ever watched any Japanese Animation save for maybe Dragonball Z. Please rescend the votes for Tangled, Kubo and the Two Strings, Despicable Me, The Brave Little Toaster, and the Sword in the Stone. Thanks.
