Your original point changed a central plot element. Change Christmas to birthday, and what's the result? I don't care about reshoots or edits.

It's not a central plot point to die hard, you could edit it out of the movie and it would be coherent good movie without reshoots. That would be tough to do for a good portion of A Christmas Story. You could reduce it from a movie to a TV show format though.

This isn't anything near as important as you think it is.

If Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie, A Christmas Story and Christian Vacation aren't Christmas movies.

Then how do you edit out an abandoned 32 story building in downtown LA any time other than Christmas? If the building & garage aren't abandoned, are they able to take over the building as easy as they do while having a floor full of 30+ hostages?

Also, it's been awhile but wasn't the reason they were having a hard time shutting off the power is because the utility guy was worried about what the mayor would say when he shut down the grid during Christmas Eve?

Finally, I recall the news van being scare because it was Christmas; not a central part to the story, but just another factor that is affected by the Christmas theme.
