1 season would have been enough.
The 2nd season was a complete rehash that added nothing, except to give everyone their sappy happy ending with Eleven. The ending for the first season was much better, but the unwashed masses can't stand anything that doesn't end in Happily Ever After.
The 3rd season will likely be better than the 2nd as they'll probably try something new.

I disagree, they finished season 1 with plenty more to tell.
One of the great things about Stranger Things is that the protagonist shifts as the episodes shift through genres.
