Marriott was just a renovation of an existing structure, and the water campus is not solely a private development. While its called the "IBM building" and a great thing for downtown and all of LA, IBM did not build it or come here without a heavily subsidized package, and in the first year almost missed their target number of employees. Physical cranes are not the indicator that should be used to determine economic growth

It was new construction. Opened in November.

You are thinking of the Watermark, which opened earlier last year. That’s an awesome hotel.

I guess there is no winning. The OP seems to think that cranes are an indicator of economic growth. Now that we know that Baton Rouge has seen cranes downtown very recently, they are not an indicator of economic growth.

Wrong, it's a completely new building, and yes there was a crane there during its construction. There is also a new building being built as we speak at North St. and I believe Seventh and also a large apartment complex at Florida and Sixth. Spencer Callahan is also building a large office near the Pastime. There's been plenty of new additions over the past several years. You haven't been paying attention.
