It is the media attention.

Even if all the stories you have every heard about totaling 500 teachers, there are 3.2 million at any given time. Given the turnover that's probably 10 million different people over the period this has been publicized. Throw out the males and old ones and that's still a couple million.

The extreme end of any Bell Curve is perfectly explainable extreme weirdos but we cannot talk about Bell curves because science is racist.
