I was in a federal jury pool with a guy who had a job interview in Tampa coming up, and they excused him (he said this in voir dire). They want people who aren't going to be checked-out mentally, and it's really easy to tank voir dire.

And we wonder why there are such terrible jury verdicts. The very people that complain about outrageous jury verdicts also do everything they can to get off of juries.
