distortion/overdrive pedals

I've been playing on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for over 4 years now and I absolutely love the clean, warm, tube sound it gives, but I find it's built-in overdrive to be a little lacking. Even dialed-in, I just can't quite get as much bite and crunch as I'd like. I'm playing rock, but not metal, so I need something with more drive than blues, but less distortion than most metal. I can't go 5150 or something too similar because my lead player uses an EVH amp on Eddie's settings, so I need something distinctive from his sound.
Some of the best pedals I've heard on that amp have been the Keeley Filaments, the 5150, Satchel's Pussy Melter, the Boss Blues Driver (with the gain all the way up), Seymore Duncan Paladium, and Empress Effects Heavy.
I'm looking for advice on what other pedals I should look into before deciding which one to buy.
I'm looking for the perfect balance of warm, full-bodied, crunchy, and heavy, without sounding too tinny, thin, or fluffy.

I've got three OD/dist boxes on my shop's board that are pretty cool.
Xotic BB Preamp. Clean boost to OD stuff, really versatile and really organic.
Bogner LaGrange, British stuff from old Bluesbreaker tones and plexis to JCMs.
Sleeper ... Tech 21 Double Drive. The "double" means Class A and A/B dirt sims in one box that you can "either" or "both." I love using this to get pushed Vox-ey colors.
Shoot me an e-mail if you wanna check one/them out in person.

Hey KingBob,
You might like this one...Electro-Harmonix Soul Food. Great pedal...very affordable and very versatile overdrive pedal.
I use it with a Les Paul Studio and a 22 watt Bugera tube amp using the clean channel.
Here's a review of the pedal:

P.S...Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Great choice for an amp !!

just watch a bunch of youtube vids, buy used pedals on reverb/ebay, and see how they sound with your amp/guitar pairing. if you don't like what you bought, sell them and get more pedals.

Definitely buy/sell on reverb.com. I dont think ive ever bought a new pedal.

No lie, I first read this as “boner garage”
That pedal sounds pretty close to what I’m going for, and the double drive seems super versatile as well. I'd love to check them out.

When the Gain is all the way up, this one comes close, but still not quite as heavy as what I'm looking for.

get an electro harmonix green muff reissue. they sound just as good as the old ones but smaller. a really fantastic pedal for fuzz.

I like my OCD. Not the disorder, the effects pedal. I have a Boss multi effects unit that gets a good high gain and I have the Fulltone OCD set to a low growl. Works out well for my purposes.

As a bass player I'm not allowed pedals. Or any singing.

I had to fill in on bass last week and despite having planned to use a pedal, the way the power situation was on that stage, none of our pedals (bass or guitar) were working correctly, so I had to do without. When I'm doing bass, I have a MI Blues Pro overdrive pedal that I use, since if I'm playing bass, that means there's no rhythm guitar player, so I'm trying to mask that extra guitar not being there.
Sounds pretty good that way, very similar to Crash Kings bass:
Raincoat - Crash Kings

I swear by this pedal:
Flying Dragon
It's hand-crafted in Gonzales. Send Steve a message and I bet he'll let you try one.

Boss Blues Driver (with the gain all the way up)
that's the one i use and gig with (if I even use it at all)
I usually let the rythm guitarist use my HRD though if he got a decent amp I would use it. I like to play thru a twin mostly but I
ll step down to a Blues Devill and sometimes even a Blues Jr if I'm really not in the mood to carry an 80 lb amp
