I’m simply questioning whether these speed traps are more about extracting revenue for rural areas than improving safety.

That's pretty much speeding tickets EVERYWHERE. But, if you've driven the speed trap corridor before, then you know where you can drive over the speed limit, and where you cannot. You see "now entering xxxxx corp limits", you slow down to the speed limit and keep your eyes peeled for another decrease in speed because where it goes from 55 to 45, it is usually followed by 45 to 35.

Erwinville, Livonia, Krotch Springs, the Barry...you will get a ticket. It's not a matter of if, but when.

And i'd take that over hours of a standstill on whiskey bay.

ETA: just a side note, if you are in Livonia, Best Burger used to be really good when i was growing up. Haven't eaten there in years, but their burgers were great. Just make sure there is a bathroom within the next 30 minutes to an hour of your drive.

So you're questioning the motive behind enforcing a law? Don't break the law and there's no problem.
