Most of the drives come with cloning software, but if you're gonna replace the drive go with an SSD if you're looking for better performance. Probably pay twice as much for half the storage but it will be at least 30-40% faster than a spinner.

Cool deal, to do the clone will I need to get a USB external enclosure for the new drive?

My current drive is a super thin 7mm, will I need a certain kind of SSD to fit that space?

This is a long time bump, but I finally got the new m.2 drive in after a huge backorder from Crucial, got it installed last night, let the clone software run through the night, and changed the bios setting to boot from the m.2 this morning. Unbelievable the difference!!

Yeah. A couple of years ago, I dropped in a terabyte SSD and it's WICKED fast. I'll probably never own a spinner again.

My laptop can go from the desktop to completely powered off and back up to the desktop in under 30 seconds.

It's frigging awesome. Things like an Excel workbook will be open and ready to go in about three seconds.
