Crowd noise not attendance for basketball

When will y’all learn, the pmac could be sold out and not an empty seat in the building, but still sound like there’s only 1k in it. Even when Simmons was there, crowd sucked during some games, especially in the student section

As much as I hate the 'back in the day' posts about football crowds, it seems they actually hold true for basketball. Place used to be lit in the 80s and 90s. I'm not sure how it went from that to the freaking morgue that it seems today.

Start serving beer and it will get rowdy.
ETA: They need to make it more of an event to attend have cheap beer and good food. People would start going as their night out that normally don't go to LSU basketball games and it would become the atmosphere of old after a while.

People would rather be on their phones. And this is coming from someone who’s only 24.

I’m really not sure why it’s so quiet in there during the games, even when there is a decent crowd. I always remember good noise in there when I was a kid around 03-06. It’s almost awkward for these games. Even Alabama game that sold out last year was dead quiet at parts. I don’t blame anyone, I think we just need to relearn how to be loud for basketball games. Weekend games will always be the loudest when there’s more drunk people in the stands lol

Move the student section back to where it used to be

I think it’s that the average LSU fan is not very knowledgeable when it come to college basketball. Knowledgeable fans know when to get excited when the team needs them and when the team doesn’t.
Look at baseball for instance. LSU can be down two runs going into the bottom of the 7th or 8th and the 9 hole hitter works a walk. The fans know to start getting excited then. They start making noise and Alex Box gets electric because they know the best players are coming up and this is their chance to make a run and if not the game could be over even with an inning or two to play.

Definitely needs to be back on the sideline with seats coming down to the floor.

exactly. Most of the students get stuck with shitty seats. How is always the students fault? People do realize students only make up 20% of the stadium? You ever see any of the old farts even stand up on a big play?

I'm tired of this argument, so pout about being in a corner or be loud? Yeah lets pout in a corner. Y'all could still make plenty of noise in that corner.
Student section is in the end zone for FB and makes plenty of noise.

I am so damned sick and tired of the "serve beer" excuse. A basketball game lasts 2 hours. If you can't go 2 hours without a beer, then maybe you need to enter a 12-step program of some sort. If you need a beer to increase your enjoyment of something, then you also might want to look into a program.

Then you would have a bunch of people who are just there for the beer and food and who don't give a shite about basketball anyway...and you are back where you started.
Will Wade talked extensively about changing the culture of the program. He is doing his part as far as the players go, but changing the culture of the fans is a much more monumental task.
Right now, people here are programmed to not care about basketball until after football season has ended and SEC basketball has started. It has been like that for years, whether our teams were great or awful. I remember a few December games back in the day where we played Arizona or UNLV that people really got into, but those were the exception. Even with Wade's enthusiasm and some great players on the court, people just aren't going to show up at 6:00 on a Tuesday night for a basketball game in November or December, especially when it is on TV.
The fact that there were as many people in the stands as there were last night is a big step. In recent years, last night's game might have drawn 2,000 people, tops.
It won't happen overnight. It is a "culture change" that has to occur over time that gets people wanting to show up to the games.
As for the people in the stands being quiet last night, I attribute that to the fact that a lot of them arrived after the game started. It is hard to get into a game sometimes when you aren't there from the beginning. And I don't blame the ones that showed late...at least they showed up. 6:00 on a weeknight is an AWFUL time for a game. It is very hard with the parking/traffic clusterfrick in the city and on campus to get there for 6:00. But TV runs the world and we just live in it with them.
So it will take time....but at least it is headed in the right direction.

As a season ticket holder, I agree that the PMAC needs to remember how to be the "6th man." I do think the student section being next to the press people makes it awkward. The press should move and the students should have the entire bottom section on that end of the court. The comment about old farts is also true. Sometimes when we chant or cheer, people look at us like we are in church and need to be quiet. And don't get me started about the leaving before the game is over. I am talking about up by 2 or down by 2. It is crazy.

I hate it too. It is like a game to a lot of these people...a game to see who can beat the traffic.

It's funny how many old people go to the games. It's a like a damn retirement retreat in there.

The PMAC holds about 14k including staff, players, etc., how many of those seats are designated to the students?
I keep hearing about the student section, I just want to know how big it actually is.

All of the move this and do that crowd don't get one thing I think.
It's the people who go to the basketball games who are the problem. If they are not excited to be there in the first place, it won't matter what LSU does.
How do you change the demographics of who goes to games? I'm not being a jerk but that is what it seems like it will take. A total recalibration of the basketball fanbase.

When I was a student during Dale Brown's heyday we used to blow the roof off the place.

Yeah but once you start packing the place out night in and night out due to making it an event to attend everyone will begin to care and really follow LSU basketball. You have to make it an event for people to come first then the atmosphere and caring about the team will take care of itself. Try not to be so short sighted.

You get 1-2 “superfans” like Guillot or the K lady in baseball and they get raked through the coals on here. Look at whiteboard guy for example. Most of the students these days at football games are pretty pathetic too outside of neck or the first-second-third down stuff. It’s gonna take everyone to build some type of consistency to at least get a good stream of noise going.

Calm down Sally, it's game 3. The noise will be there come mid season. Football is still king, so most people's mindset isn't on basketball right now.

I don't consider him a LSU Tiger. Dude did not want to be here at all.
