He helped the Beastie Boys become what they were by making Licensed to Ill a hit, but he was never a “member” of Beastie Boys. John Berry and Kate Schellenbach were the only other members besides the 3 everyone knows. John Berry left before they became a rap group and Rick Rubin made them kick out Kate Schellenbach because she was a girl. They split with Rubin because they hated how he changed them. Especially Yauch.

Later on the Beastie Boys tried to make it up to Kate Schellenbach by making her album with new band Luscious Jackson their first album on their new label Grand Royal in the 90s.
