Unfortunately, it doesn’t even matter what these candidates believe INDIVIDUALLY. They WILL vote in lock step with the leadership of the party.

It is a sad realization. I USED to be a “vote for the person - not the party” guy. I’ve capitulated to the concept that unless there is a major movement to change a party in a large proportion, it doesn’t really matter what the individual believes.

The mistake that you made was ever believing a democrat.

Sometimes they can sound reasonable, but there is a reason they chose to put that big D after their name.
D is for Deceiver

I gave that up decades ago for federal level elections. Politicians say what they think their audience wants to hear - and the DEMOCRATs have adopted that as their constant tactic. GOP is not quite as amoral as the DEMs.

I adopted the SCOTUS as my first - and most times only - decision maker. That has led me to vote for nobody but GOP since then for anything from US Representative and above.

I've never found it to be a bad touchstone - never regretted any vote.

I've not always been happy with my choices, but there was never any doubt as to who was the WORST choice.

In more detail, they will vote against Trump at all cost

Now, pretty much the only time I vote for the individual over party is at the local level. And even then, that goes GOP 80% of the time.

Had the Democrats been reasonable and put him up in 2016, I’d have probably voted for Jim Webb, because I wasn’t terribly enthused about voting for Trump...it was a protest vote against Hillary.

Sadly, there is strength only in numbers. And I could never get my father to understand that. He had personal or longstanding knowledge of all the "yellow dog" local or state level Democrats who never changed parties (and of course became more liberal over the decades, particularly after Reagan). He never voted Republican locally or even state level (except I think he was for Foster), but always voted Republicans for President - every election except 1976.

Pops would be 80 today. I miss him.
