I’ll admit I have no counter argument to this

This thread has an absurdly modern perspective. He asked whether there "has ever been". In the history of mankind, there have been some absolutely incredible civilizations. The Persians, the Egyptians, the Chinese, just to name a few.
Frankly, the West is lucky that China became so obsessed with ceramics that they neglected glass, paving the way for the West to completely steamroll them in the sciences during the Renaissance.

Egypt and China far and away did more, many thousands of years beyond anything Europe has done.
What variables are you using to quantify it?

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
Who’s winning now?

It's no coincidence that it's also the "culture" that spread Christianity the most.

They had gunpowder long before Europe did. It was their lack of metallurgy that held back canon design.

American culture is better. More capitalistic, more equality and freedom, with more opportunities for all.
We saved Europe from Hitler and protected them from Stalin, and now they bitch about our politics, while consuming the food, drink, clothes, and entertainment that Our corporations sell to them.
I appreciate the efforts of my European ancestors, but now, it's our culture, our world.

If the Mayans were not landlocked they would’ve dominated for millenniums

Certainly why they got left behind militarily, but glass is posited as to why they got left behind in the sciences. With glass came the microscope and the telescope. With those, came advances in science those that came before could only have dreamed of.

Well, the Chinese will probably rule the world economically within the next fifty years and there's not a whole lot we can do about it.
