LHSAA Playoff Pairings thread

LINK
The Archdiocese of New Orleans needs to allow the Catholic school to get out. 12 teams in Division 1 is a joke.
Form a new association, blow the LHSAA up and start from scratch.

It seems like we have this same discussion every year since this split started.
State championships don’t hold the same weight anymore... smh.

I like how my old high school went 3-7 for the season and still made the 2A playoffs :rotflmao:

The link is not working for me, this morning.
I know Scotlandville is coming to Tad Gormley for a first round clash against the Crusaders. They are the Crusaders' nemesis, and with a freshman QB Mmahet, it is unlikely that this year will be any different.
Kid did OK for having to start the last game of the regular season, and he will be truly good by the end of next season.

Just for the purposes of this discussion.
St. Augustine at Holy Cross, Friday 7:00
Scotlandville at Brother Martin, Tad Gormley, Friday 7:00
Archbishop Shaw at Evangel Christian, Friday, 7:00
St. Paul's at Jesuit, Saturday, 6:00
Who has a bye? It appears without looking that Archbishop Rummel (awaits S'ville vs. Martin winner,) Catholic High, John Curtis have the byes. Who did I miss? Is it Byrd?

The current playoff split-up is so freaking lame.

Div 1 will lose shaw, scottlandville, eca and possibly mcKinley...
when the archdiocese gave them the green light, they realized it was a dead deal...
but look for the selects to pull out of playing in the dome and move to play a week earlier at an alternate venue.

The Division II schools need to be absorbed into Divisions I and III, depending on school size. There simply are not enough teams to have legitimate playoff brackets among the select schools.

U-High should be in Div I

Agreed. I think U-High, STM, Parkview, DLS, Teurlings, and even St. Charles would make the Division I bracket more competitive. Maybe even some of the other Division II schools could make things interesting if they played Division I.
ETA: As it currently stands, it is a joke that there are separate brackets of 12 and 14 teams, respectively, when the degree of parity between the two Divisions is not that significant.

most of the smaller selects want no part of the being grouped with div 1.... hence even the creation of div ii...

If the split happened in the 90’s we would have actually made the playoffs, twice we were 6-4 and 5-5 once and never sniffed the postseason. Now 4-6 gets you the #30 seed.

General bracket question:
In a 32 team bracket, #1 beats #32 and #16 beats #17. It is a given that #1 would then host #16 in the next round.
But if #17 beats #16, is it still set up such that #1 would travel to #17 in the next round?
And in a bracket with less than 32 teams where teams get byes, is the #1 guaranteed to host the second round game, regardless of what happens between the 2 teams who play in round 1 for the right to face #1?

Sushi can answer better than I can, but it depends upon who hosted the first round game. Higher seeds often have to go on the road because they alternate home games.
If you go on the road in round one and win, it is quite possible that your higher seed opponent will have to come to you because you went on the road in week one.
At least, that is what I remember from discussions in previous years.
