Buena Vista is fantastic. I'd also recommend John Hiatt's Bring the Family. Cooder's work on that is exemplary -- especially on tracks like Lipstick Sunset and Memphis in the Meantime.

also, the album done by the same band, under the name "little village"...good stuff. for those who dont know, that band is ry cooder, john hiatt, nick lowe & jim keltner
another ry cooder solo album i very much like is "get rhythm", his band includes van dyke parks, flaco jiminez and jim keltner on that one

I never knew he was on that album. I always thought it was Landreth but you're right, it's Cooder. Memphis in the Meantime is a fantastic song. (Sonny does play on Slow Turning though.)
