Got a 32" Sony Bravia LCD that's about 10 years old and finally bit the dust. Has some sort of issue with the screen/display where it just kinda glows yellow and you can't make anything out. Anyway, Best Buy geek squad is the closest semi-respectable repair place to me and they confirmed my suspicion that it is cheaper to just buy a new one than to repair this one.

But I just hate chucking this one in a dumpster. Seems like someone somewhere could at least get some parts out of it. Anybody know of any place in the northshore or NOLA area that takes donations? If not, what's the best way to dispose of it? I suppose I could put it on my curb and post it as free to the first person on craigslist, but I hate advertising that sort of thing and getting creeps driving by my house checking it out

Call your local BestBuy. They used to take old tvs for recycle. I am not sure of the current policy.

I know a guy that owns an appliance/tv repair place. Says there is a group of Mexicans that come and pick up all the TVs that he has that aren’t worth fixing every couple of months. They come in a big truck and load up at all the similar places across the south then take them to Mexico and have them fixed cheap

Best buy charges $25 to recycle a TV. It was cheaper/easier than paying the dump fee so I just went with it. Wasn't happy about it though

I've never had Best Buy charge me to recycle anything, and I take them anything that has wiring in it. Couple weeks ago I took them a coffee maker that had a leak. If I ever take them a TV, I'm doing the same thing: walk in with it and leave it on the customer service counter.

Maybe that's just a Florida thing I don't know.

This is the correct answer.

The guy at the Best Buy in Slidell said they charge $25 to recycle the TV. Said they only charge a fee on TVs. All other electronics are free
