Big Lake info needed

I recently moved to central part of state. The closest spec and red fishing for me now is prob Big Lake. Where is the best boat launch, and is the north or south end better?
I have fished the Dularge area for years, but looking to learn this lake. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have an 18 foot Triton w 150 merc on it.

I'm in the same boat as far as it being the closest spec fishing to my area. If I had the option I'd fish Dularge over Big Lake 100x out of 100. With that being said, we always launch out of Calcasieu Point at the North end of the lake. It takes us right at 2 hours to get there from Alexandria.
North or South end being better just depends on tide and time of year. This time of year you should be able to catch fish in every part of the lake depending on where they are biting that day.
I still haven't learned the patterns all that well, and I've fished it a lot in the past 2 years. I guess that's because the damn place has no patterns (or I'm just a shitty inshore fisherman)... Probably the latter.

I just sent you an email. I forgot to mention that if you are in an 18ft boat, you need to be selective on the days you go. Especially if it is a bass boat. A strong north or south wind can have the main lake throwing 2-3ft waves out there in no time.

Growing up on Moss Lake (just north of Big Lake) I found the two major things that changed the patterns was (a) the salinity and (b) the mud line. I never had any luck fishing dirty water.
I've done good at the old jetties as well as Turner's Bay. Just depends on the conditions and tides. I've always done good fishing the birds...when the birds were working...it was a fun day.

I've noticed this. I grew up in the bays in South Texas and I don't remember them getting as mean as Big Lake does quite as often. Obviously, they can and do get squirrely but just don't remember it happening quite as frequently.
