My son is autistic. And if you said somethig like that in front of him, I would beat your sorry arse.
You get offended by someone calling an autist an autist?
The great thing about the easily offended is that you people can't grasp the concept that others are going to continue to intentionally offend you. It's just a sport at this point.
How do these fragile people make it through the day without bawling in the fetal position?

Oh shut the hell up you closed-minded douche. I'm on the spectrum and while it has some negative impacts (I have a hard time looking people in the eye, laser focus on certain things others might not understand, etc.), it certainly hasn't ruined my life like you imply.
I'd actually argue that it's improved my life in areas, and that's especially true when those around me understand what I'm dealing with. I've never looked at it as a "disability" though, because it's not. I'd say that if anyone here is disabled it's you and your mindset.
The "autist" label has done nothing to disparage autism, in fact it's quite the opposite by implying that we're an unstoppable force when we want to get something accomplished. Douches like you acting like the opposite is true is FAR more damaging.

What if those with autism spectrum disorder who are part of the group enjoy the moniker?
We do. There's absolutely nothing that's negatively implied by it and has led to autism pride. It's nice to be recognized and appreciated for having a different mind, whereas that mindset hasn't existed in the past.
I, for one, like that the 'autism' label is starting to be synonymous with a different meaning (unless you're texrider apparently).
