Remember when high end 32'' LCD Tvs were $2,399?

I remember walking into an HHgregg in 2005 while "Ice Age" was appearing on every TV in perfect HD. I was ready to look at the $2,400 tv but was disappointed when that was the price point of a small 32''
I walked into Best Buy today and saw new 32'' TVS with better specs priced at $99-$139
Crazy how the prices have dropped for tvs. I think their 37" model was over $3k!

Also it was "bundled" with Monster HDMI cables for like $99 or $149 I forget. Insane!
Monoprice appreciates those days it put them in business.

Yeah, I remember when plasma came out and a 42” cost over $5k.

More than that. The Phillips 42 was $15k. it had a huge arse control box. I think it was only 480p. My sister had two in her office. They lasted about 4 years until they faded so bad they were unwatchable.
Sony had a 13" OLED about 10 years ago that was $25k

Had a 42in samsung plasma in my barracks room in 07.
Got rid of it before deployment in 2010. Got back and bought 55in Samsung LED/3D and that sucker was expensive.
Still have it and it's been moved to 3 different states, been in storage a few times and made it with two kids under 8.
Finally bought my house and got rid of the original box that was still in perfect condition, just many layers of duck tape.

But yes, I've only owned two television sets in my adult life (13 yrs).

Yeah I remember getting a 32" Sony LCD around 2007 for like $1,500.00. It finally crapped out a couple weeks ago and now I can't even give it away to somebody. It would be cheaper to buy a brand new one with vastly superior specs than to try and get it repaired

I bought a Sony LCD projection TV for $2500 many years ago online. We still had dial up at the time. It was delivered strapped down on a pallet.Circuit City and Ward's had the same TV for $3000.
It went bad and I sold it on Crag's List for $50.

I'm still using my 42" lcd that I bought the Thursday football season began in 08. I came close to upgrading to a 55" qled for $700, which was the exact same price. But since football isn't in 4k, I decided against it.

People couldn't understand after the prices of plasmas dropped why the installation cost didn't drop along with the retail price. My reply was that I still had to put the same amount of time and materials into the installation as I did when they cost more.

The proprietary cable on the original phillps 42 plasma was like 3" wide. Installers dream...

TV's have gotten bigger and cheaper for years, and will likely continue to do so.

I used to be a certified Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) tech with a specialty in zone calibration of multi CRT projection stacks, edge blending and color calibration using Faroudja line doublers.
I traveled and hung around with Sam Runco, Kevin Miller, Joe Kane, Joel Silver and all the fun folks from publications like Sound & Video, Home Theater Magazine and Audio Video Interiors magazine. Fun, days with lots of partying, hanging with rich celebs, sports figures and actors that spent hundreds of thousands on home theaters where projectors I selling and supporting cost over $100k each.
Back then, I easily commanded between $2500 - $5000 depending on complexity to calibrate a system, and if it was a two projector system, upwards of $10k just to pull it all together into a system that, honestly, looked much better than most of today's systems. The CRT colors were rich, deep and with a dynamic range of infinity.
Miss those days, and the satisfaction of walking away from these systems knowing they were beautiful when I left. I guess that's the cost of progress.

Runco projectors can still hold their own against many of today’s offerings.

I paid around $100 for a 32 inch RCA last year at Christmas. Cheap little set for my bedroom and light enough I can carry it to the living room for football games in Saturday’s.
