Exactly. It may be "ruined" but in the artworld, it's just been transformed into a new piece of historical art that is probably "more valuable" now.

"The infamous self-destruct art piece by Banksy, the first like it in the history of art!"

Not much different than those stamps with the airplanes printed upside down. Not considered garbage.
