I don't think it has anything to do with the rooftops because the cubs didn't own them back in the day. Though they did have a contract with the rooftop owners. I think it was probably determined they were fine as is.
But now they're dim because the team can't score any goddamn runs and the fricking season is over. So that's an answer too.
