I went to USL in the 1970’s and there was no jealousy or hatred for LSU. I don’t know when it changed.

If you lived in Lafayette you would understand how badly ULL wants to be LSU and hate LSU.

If you lived in Lafayette and paid attention you'd know that is a smaller group than people who pull for and love LSU. And if you are the flagship university in the state, the highest performing public university there, and the only nationally relevant football program wouldn't every school even close in size kind of want to be you?

And since when does other peoples stupid behavior justify you being stupid? Unless you already are.

FTR I live in Lafayette and have most of my 56 years, attended LSU, graduated from USL, and have a son currently at LSU.

Not pulling for 'Bama against any Louisiana school. No way.
That being said, I seriously doubt that Saban is going to run up the score against Napier's team.

I root fot Bama over any non-SEC team. If you lived outside SEC country, you would realize how much others hate the SEC, especially in Big 12, ACC and Big 10 country.

Our borders are surrounded on 3 sides and are constantly bombarded. We must hold the line...SEC! SEC! SEC!

Roll Tide today! There have been rare occasions when LSU needed Bama to beat Auburn and I pulled for Bama as many of you did. Not the first time. ULL fans hate LSU more than any other school.

I know plenty of people who graduated from ULL and are die hard LSU fans. Honestly, I think there are just as many, if not more die hard LSU than ULL fans in the Lafayette area. My wife has degrees from ULL and LSU and we support both and have attended football games at both schools. Why do you have to choose? I think there is a small percentage of any fan base that are like the OP and make it seem like a bigger issue than it is.

Alot of hate for a State school? If you are an LSU fan why pull for a state team to lose to our biggest hurdle we face every year to winning titles

When USL changed their name to the University of Louisiana in 1984, the other universities in the state revolted. The state legislature passed a law forcing them to revert back to USL. LSU got the majority of the blame and many ULL supporters have held that against LSU ever since.

A.) you’re a fricking jackass that cares about other people’s opinions too much

B.) dude it’s ULL come on. You’re not a true LSU fan if you root for Alabama under any circumstance.

C.) y’all gotta realize the city of Lafayette people (not Acadiana as a whole) are not HUGE sports fans overall. They don’t really follow sports enough to be a fan of anything. They’re more into arts, food and music. I shite you not, go to a grocery store during a big saints game and you’ll see the place packed with people shopping in saints gear not watching the game. Look at Cajun field on Gameday. It’s a ghost town. Everyone wears ragin Cajuns gear and stores support it but I never see or hear of Cajun field being super packed for a game. They are fair weather fans who just wear the gear to tailgate and try to be big and important. In reality they are not true sports fans.

They’re jealous of LSU and feel like if it weren’t for LSU they’d be a power 5 team. For real that’s how they feel.

I really don’t Understand how this was such a big deal? If they remained the official “UL” does that magically mean they’ll become a powerhouse academically and athletically?

People act like a name really makes a difference that much. The only people who would truly benefit from the name are alumni and students. At the end of the day they’re still a middle of the pack G5 commuter school. Nothing wrong with that?

Same but in games like this I pull for the ole Alma matter.

The jackass “fans” of theirs run off people like us who are open minded and are willing to support both LSU and ULL. they make you feel like you’ve gotta decide between the two as if it’s the iron bowl or something.
