I think I find the idea of reincarnation more comforting than the idea of an afterlife that lasts forever, at least if I couldn’t remember past lives. I remember being young when I first contemplated the idea of forever, and it was kind of terrifying

Consciousness is bewildering because it's so difficult to define. We want to define things in terms of cause and effect but come up lacking when considering consciousness.

Instead of reincarnation, a new version of something from the past, I like to think of this particular phenomenon as mind transference. It seems to be more literal than reincarnation. Of course, it's fleeting and fades very quickly as the child gains new experiences but it seems worthy of investigation. I'm glad that UVA is researching it.
