Have you ever been in a coma?

I've discussed it a couple of times on here, so apologies, but I took a nice long nap two years ago and I'm still not recovered so the subject is interesting to me.
How long were you down?
How was your physical recovery?
Do you have memory of your coma (Dr's, visitors, etc)?

I was in a come for two weeks after a car accident. I probably would have woken up sooner but doctors kept me in a coma because my brain was pretty swollen. I had to spend a month in rehab after and when I was discharged I still had to go to months of outpatient therapies to regain certain skills. I have what is called post traumatic amnesia so I don't remember the day if the accident, obviously the time in the coma, or the 2 weeks after I came out of the coma. My first memories after are snipets of waking up and being terrified because I thought I had been kidnapped and was being experimented on in a hospital.

Many OTers seem to be posting from a deep coma, so this thread should be interesting.

Yes, last month, out for four days. Physical recovery is better than was expected, my legs are still a little weak, and the more tired I am the more my hands shake. I don't remember anything that happened around or to me while I was out.
But...I am also going through chemo treatments. Between the coma and chemo, I feel like I am doing really well.

I fricked around and got some head and ate a turkey sandwich. Woke up three days later.

Wish I was in one now so I wouldn't have read this thread

Yep. When I was married.

Closest thing to it would be when I died at 1 or 2 years of age. From what I understand they put a shot into my heart and here I am.
Don't remember a thing about it.

My son had something similar when he was 12. Head injury and they kept him in the coma for 3 days d/t brain swelling as you spoke of. To answer you other questions, he woke up with weakness to one side of his body. He walked like someone who had a stroke. He was hospitalized 2 weeks in total then started physical and/or occupational therapy. That worked pretty well and he got a lot of his motor skills back and eventually all or almost all of it back. His school grades never came all the way back. He struggled initially then eventually got to making mostly Bs and Cs, whereas he was a very strong student prior to the accident. His grades may have been partly due to him hitting puberty around the same time and his focus may have shifted some but the head injury definitely affected them initially. He’s 31 now and doing well. He told me several years ago he still gets dizzy doing certain things. I think sit ups were one of them. And no, I don’t think he has any memory of the time in the coma but I’m not positive about that.

Many years ago, I knew a chick that was involved in a bad wreck at the intersection of Greenleaves Blvd & hwy 190 in Mandeville and she spent 3 -4 months in a coma. We went to HS together and even though we didn't know each other personally, she still knew me. Anyway, after she came out of the coma, whenever I would see her, sometimes she knew me, sometimes she didn't.

i remember waking up in the hospital with a needle in my arm. I was 6 or so. I had eaten a bunch of Halloween candy and went in to a diabetic coma. My mom thought i was dead. The hospital took their time and woke me up. This wasn't anything super serious but it was considered a coma.

Yes, fractured skull, age 7. Don’t remember anything during coma. Only lasted from the fracture time of about 2 pm until next day. Woke up in ER and they were trying to get me to eat oatmeal. I hated oatmeal at the time.
