I saw the first 3 episodes. I’m a big Clancy fan. I’ve read 5 books and am currently reading without remorse. I also really liked all of the Clancy movies. Hunt may be may favorite movie of all time, even though it differs from the book. But Baldwin and Ford got the character right. He seemed more intellectual and more of a reluctant fighter. And even though Affleck sucks as an actor, I thought the movie was good. And James Earl Jones as Greer was one of my favorite characters.
This show, however does not do the books or the characters justice. Greer being basically a field spook Muslim who steps on too many toes and curses like a sailor just doesn’t fit. Jim could be a good fit, but he has that sad boy look too much. Then the whole, America created terrorists and we deserve what we get bullshite is tiring. We got plenty of that with 24 and Homeland. Which, is exactly what this show feels like. Good guys are incredibly inept and nonsensical and are always 3 steps behind the bad guys. Every time the good guys catch a break, some boss of the good guys does something that causes the bad guys to get away. Hopefully the rest of the season takes off, but so far, it’s getting hard to watch.
And... all of the intelligence seems rushed and forced. With the Ryan movies, you could see the critical thinking and steps to figure out the “evil plot”. Here it’s more like “hey, let’s just give you the answer, because we need to fast forward to the illogical action sequences”.
Also, I’d like to see Clark, Chavez, Ritter, and Judge Moore, but I doubt we see many of these characters.
ETA: oh, and Greer’s contempt with Ryan doesn’t fit. Greer thought of Jack like a son. Here, they are basically coworkers who tolerate each other. The Greer on here is more like Ritter in the books.
And another thing, Cathy Ryan was a world class eye surgeon, not an infectious diseases expert. Don’t know why they changed her profession unless it’s to give her a plot point as well, which she never had much of one in the books.
