I saw a lot of legal chatter that the punishment is usually a fine? 5 years seems like a ridiculously harsh punishment for something like this.

I have never heard of someone going to jail for five years for FEC violations.

that's not what i said... i said the statute of limitations for the violation is 5 years... not the punishment...
