As the title says, I’m looking to get a new scope for my .270.

Cabelas? Academy? Online?

Also open for some recommendations in the <$400 range.

I have a redfield revolution 3x9x50 on my .308. I've had it for 5 or 6 years and am happy with it. I have a leupold on my 444 and I can't tell a difference. The scope was around 200 i believe.

The redfield has fallen 20+ feet from a tree and was the point of impact moved about 2 inches.

I've heard good things about vortex but have no experience with them.

Try Optics Planet. I filtered it to show only 3x-12, 4x-12 & 4x-16 and $400 or less. Still shows 219 results. I use mainly Leopuld, but don't like the Leopuld options available at these filters.

Appreciate it.

Also, what’s the preferred scope mount/rings for a Remington 700 these days? Leupold? Talley?

I got a leupold vx3 3.5-10x40 for 250 on eBay. It was only mounted then taken off. Ol boy said the scope was sitting hard on his barrel and he didn't like it I didn't tell him no different.

I have this same scope on my AR-15. It stays in the sleeper of my truck, pretty much getting banged around 200 days per year. It stays right on the money.

Have several leupolds, and they are fine scopes too, especially the VX-2,for about the price range you are saying.

As a matter of fact, The VX series are being phased out, and some deals are probably out there.

I don't know much about the Vortex scopes either, and for some reason, the guy at my main gun store keeps steering me away from them ( even though he has several in stock), but won't say why.

This probably has to do with him not being able to get the Vortex scope you want and wanting to selling you something he can get or already has.

He already has The Vortex scopes in stock.

What is your opinion Of a leupold vx-2 3-9x 40 on my new Tikka 6.5 ? will it be enough scope for the rifles capabilities? I'm thinking 600 yards max distance for that scope.
CMP will be opening a 1000 yard range soon, and I probably should get something better to try down there?

It seems to have driven the price up if anything. I found out the hard way that Leupold discontinued the VX-2 went I went to buy one a few months ago. They also quit mass producing scopes with the silver finish and it is now a custom $200 markup. Used silver VX-2's in 3-9x40 are listing for $399 plus on ebay right now. I really like a silver scope on a stainless/laminate stock but I'm SOL now.

That gun shop where I go has several vx-2 s,but not any of the brushed finish ones.

You might want to try The Sure Shot in Alexander City,Al.
He told me he could cut me a deal on 1 of those. I spend quite a bit of money there though.
It might be worth a try.

samplelist.com

opticsplanet.com

Amazon has Leupold...

ETA: quick comparison between a Leupold VX-2 3-9x30mm on samplelist.com & Amazon shows amazon to be about $20 cheaper with free shipping and sales tax added. Samplelist was higher base price, tax-free, but added $5 for economy shipping. Both sites were sub-$400. About to buy one to go on my new Tikka 22-250 that I had to buy because the OB does nothing but cost me money
