From Dandy Don: Devin White talked about some of the young 5- and 4-star prospects not wanting to play special teams. They had to tell them White, Jarvis Landry, Russell Gage, and Duke Riley all did it and benefitted from it.
• White also said he’s been advocating for being on the kickoff team for two reasons: 1) To show the young guys that even he is willing to be on special teams and that 2) “Those tackles count, too.” Get this: White also joked that one way the offense could improve would be to “Give Devin White carries at running back.” He said he’d love to be LSU’s wildcat RB.
I'm not an O pumper but this shows it's a lot more than just on him. Prima donnas thinking they're too good to play special teams.
Fact is...if they go to BAMA they will be on special teams

Jarvis Landry was the best special teams player I ever saw. I thought for sure he was a linebacker the way he hit. You knew immediately he was a force to be reckoned with.

quote:Punt team is where he'd be most valuable. In addition to possibly using him on the occasional fake, it is tougher to get clean of blocks (something he does by some black magic) and punts have more effect on the outcome of a defensive battle type game than KOs.
New fair catch rule on kickoffs will basically kill kickoff returns IMO.
Will be interesting to see how teams play it from both a kickoff and kickoff return perspective.
For the those that don't know...you can call for a fair catch anywhere inside the 25 yard line and if caught securely you get the ball at the 25 yard line.
Nice one airfernando!

Feels like when Duke Riley had to come last year and tell the team how they need to go about their business.
Isn’t that O’s job?

To a certain extent it's on orgeron. The mindset of these players are a cancer and aren't being team players. I don't know the players Devin is talking about but if they are young players they should just be happy to be on the field contributing.

On the other hand, the coaches should ALSO be doing it. It is not an either or. On a team it comes from both.
I'm sure the coaches are fighting that type of culture. However, I'm not so sure they are doing it effectively.
And I'm going to bash CEO on this one... this type motivation is supposed to in his wheelhouse and a strong suit of his. Entitlement/Country Club culture should not be one of the issues at LSU under CEO. At least not to this extent.

Totally agree with your statement. I was just bringing to light some of the things O/coaching staff are having to deal with, truly believe it's O's responsibility also but I think it's great to see Devin step up and tell the team how it should be. That's why I posted this. It was "not" to have an excuse if the team doesn't do well as some on here think.

You may be right, but I have a little trouble believing guys under Saban or Kirby Smart aren't willing to play special teams if that's what is asked of them.

This is where I lay blame on O, there's no choice in the matter is the attitude and approach he should take and if you still don't want to play ST then you won't play at all. Those players can watch the entire game(s) from the sidelines.
