Combination of things, not getting off the field as much as they should have on 3rd and longs and then our 3rd down offense was VERY bad and inefficient. It was really feast or famine on that side of the ball. Were they explosive and could score at any moment on offense ? yes but Miami couldn’t sustain drives last year which attributed to the defense staying on the field longer than they should have imo. Its crazy how potent Miami offense could be at times when we were so terrible on 3rd downs offensively. If Miami improves there on both sides of the ball mainly offense then big things will happen for the U

Miami

Rushing yards allowed
# 43 146 yards per game

Passing yards allowed
#54 217 yards per game

Turnover margin
Miami 13
LSU 10

Your defense is overrated. Mediocre at best

LSU defense averaged defending 64 plays a game while Miami defended 76 plays per game so of course they will give up a few more yards.
Miami was top 10 in yards per play in the country

This is why yards per game is such a flawed statistic

Miami rush defense
541 attempts 1895 yards 3.50 ypc 10 tds allowed 145 yards per game

LSU rush defense
433 attempts 1669 yards 3.85 ypc 16 tds allowed 128 yards per game

Miami also gave up less yards per pass attempt than LSU as well and the only reason why our passing defense was ranked that is because how many more passing plays we defended.

Y’all got to be objective, it’s much deeper than yards given up rushing/passing per game. Teams who defend more plays of course will give up more yards overall but look at the per attempt ranking which is lower than LSU in passing yards given up per attempt as well as rushing yards

You’re still only factoring in total yards and not yards per play.
Total rushing yards- Advantage LSU
Yards per carry- Advantage Miami
Passing yards- Advantage LSU
Yards per attempt- Advantage Miami
Sacks- Advantage Miami
TFL- Advantage Miami
Turnovers- Advantage Miami

SEC teams play slower on offense which causes less plays for the defense. So total yards is simply a lazy way to compare defenses.
