LSU is 122nd in the nation in returning starters. So the other 121 teams have more returning starters
It’s not even close? LSU didn’t have the best defense last year. Now they lost 9 of the 13 top tacklers and have zero seniors playing but now they are the best defense in the NCAA? And it’s not even close?

I fully believe that’s LSU’s defense is talented and they will be good. But you see how some would think you have purple and gold glasses on?
Last year every team with a winning record scored at least 21 points against LSU. Then after losing 9 of 13 of the top tacklers, LSU has become historic on defense. I don’t get it but I guess we’ll see in 9 days.
You’re still only factoring in total yards and not yards per play.
Total rushing yards- Advantage LSU
Yards per carry- Advantage Miami
Passing yards- Advantage LSU
Yards per attempt- Advantage Miami
Sacks- Advantage Miami
TFL- Advantage Miami
Turnovers- Advantage Miami

SEC teams play slower on offense which causes less plays for the defense. So total yards is simply a lazy way to compare defenses.
LSU was ahead in “total defense” however Miami’s offense wasn’t built on long drives. So of course their defense was on the field more. So a better look would be yards per play. LSU gave up 5.07 yards per play while Miami gave up 4.77. Miami also lead the nation in sacks, turnovers, and top 5 in TFL.
