Go, take the job. I have not lived there but have been there many times for business.

FYI:
You will be expected to affiliate w/ the Gamecocks or the Clemson Tigers. Doesn’t matter that you have no previous association with either one. You will probably get that question the first day from multiple people.
The bar-b-q is different than probably any you have had.
Vehicle property taxes are high I have been told.
You probably will not find seafood as good as in NO but Charleston has really good restaurants.
There are a lot of historical places in SC if that interest you.
There are a lot of outdoor recreation options in all directions and most within 2 to 3 hours.
It gets hot & humid in the summer but not any worse than LA.

not really...
All my friends knew I was LSU and did not have a problem.
Would likely have more problems associating w Clemson.

Back in the day ... I had to sit in the parking lot of a club called Polo's (top of a hill) to catch games on the NOLA radio.
Waitresses were very nice, would bring me drinks to the car in the parking lot even though the club did not get busy till after 11:30
