Lowering Cholesterol with diet?
Just had my first check up in a long time. Over 50 years old. I don't know the numbers yet, but the Dr. said "Slightly elevated" and wants me to use diet to control. So, what are the do not eats, and what do I eat more of? Would rather hear things from people here that have experienced this than just a plain google search.
First thing to understand is that ingested cholesterol has close to zero bearing on measured blood cholesterol.
Second thing to understand is that cholesterol probably isn't very important to keep track of in the first place.
Third thing to understand is that high cholesterol correlates POSITIVELY with all-cause mortality.
Fourth thing to understand is that you should stop doing what you've heard in the popular media all your life. The guy in this thread who immediately said "oatmeal and fruit" is perfectly representative. Bacon and eggs are VASTLY more healthy for you than oatmeal and fruit.
TL;DR I'm happy your Doc suggested diet as a solution instead of medicine...but still, no biggie, don't worry about it.
