Who were the Bucs supposedly getting in return? I don't remember that trade.

had agreed to a deal that would have sent the left fielder to the Braves for Alejandro Pena, Keith Mitchell and a prospect. Braves GM John Schuerholtz was confident that he could work out an extension to keep Bonds in Atlanta, and the teams were all set to announce the deal -- that is, until Pirates manager Jim Leyland got wind of it.
The Braves always wanted Bonds...I believe they also made an offer in the late 80's that included SS Andres Thomas (highly thought of at the time)but that trade was also nixed.

Would have been interesting to think what other prospect we would have given up. Mitchell was #89 according to Baseball America that year.
#4 Chipper Jones
#8 Ryan Klesko
#13 Mark Wohlers
#19 Mike Kelly
#56 David Neid
#78 Javy Lopez
Other Braves in the top 100.

Should have let the trade go through. At least get a few good players in return.
