LSU should beat Troy, even just on talent alone.

Preseason polls are useless but can often be indicative of your programs standing. LSU not ranked is pretty telling.

If we aren't ranked, its because we haven't named a starting QB (or at least dont have the appearance of having one).

Yeah that’s it. That’s why LSU has been in the top 10 consistently over the past decade. Because of our solid QB’s.....

Proven QB plays a big role in pre-season rankings not the HC as some try to link the rankings to how they fell about Orgeron. Miss State is ranked higher than A&M.

Preseason polls are so dumb

They are the national perception of 130 college football programs before a season starts and those perceptions showcase the status the individual programs have earned recently.

No reason to hate them.

So it's some kind of recognition for past success? Or is it how people think the teams will finish in a given year?

same thing happened from 2007 to 2008, went from #1 at the end of the 2007 season to unranked at the end of the 2008 season. It's not exactly easy to remain ranked for 8 years straight. I believe only Alabama and Ohio State have managed to do that from 2012-present. BTW, we finished unranked in 2014, and Ed Orgeron was not the coach

Your comment alludes to it being amazing for us to have a year we may not be ranked in a meaningless preseason poll 7 years removed from a #2 finish.

ETA:....and we're ranked in the preseason poll

Yup 24 so people can stop bitching, were ranked. Not that it matter we play Miami week 1 if we won we would be ranked the next week.

Preseason rankings do not mean anything.

Ahh I can see how you read it differently than I intended. I was talking about in a bubble this year, not over the last decade.

I was referring to immediate situation with LSU regarding Orgeron, Ensminger and our questions on offense. I think there is (obviously) enough mojo right now with our deferense to warrant a top 25, but the question marks have been on offense.

The Burrow situation created enough positive excitement that, in my opinion, had he lit it up and been named the clear-cut starter this summer and there been less skepticism the QB situation, media would have been quick to rank us top 25.

I wonder what Urban Meyer's ballot looked like.
