2/3 of the $4.047 B of spending is to social security, Medicare and Medicaid.

If you are a super-power, and you are going to cut ANY military costs that are ON THE BOOKS, it would be in DoD Overseas Contingency Operations, which costs nearly $100 Ba year.

Yes. A third is a good start.

I support a redefinition of our military obligations first.

Close all bases and withdraw all personnel from the UK, France, and Germany immediately. Work with North and South Korean towards future reunification of those two countries and withdrawal of our troops from that part of the world as well.

Withdraw from NATO. Hold talks with Italy, the Eastern European countries that aren't being recolonized by Muslims and Russia about a saner mutual defense pact for the 21st century and beyond.

It no longer makes any sense for us to be in a military alliance with the likes of Turkey, the UK, France, and Germany.

Once we've changed our military's mission to deal with the new realities of a new world, we can talk about spending cuts.

Imo all government entities should be forced to reduce budget 1%/year over the next 10-15 years. Thats well within the realm of "be more efficient".

I work for state gov and we are humming lately.. because of turnover. Then we fired 2 people. Reprioritized and everything is going very well when it was a shitshow in the past.

It definitely needs to be cut. Not soldiers on the frontlines, but most of the waste is essentially lining corporate pockets. Look at how much over-budget some of these programs are. Have any of you ever seen the things that are being given out as military surplus? They are literally giving war vehicles and weapons that are a few years old and in perfectly good condition to police departments all over the country. Huge amount of waste, and if you are concerned about "big government" overstepping its bounds, a militarized police force should scare you.
