Anyone quit Deer Hunting cold turkey?

I'm considering selling my 4 Wheeler and just giving it up. I'll still go if invited, but with the price of the lease, feed, and time it takes I just don't know if I want to do it anymore. Plus, I'd like to buy a new kayak. Lol

No, but I did quit duck hunting cold turkey. There were numerous seasons growing up where I would duck hunt at least 50 days of the season.
I went on my first duck hunt this January in over 10 years as it was a trip with a few customers from work. There is no telling when I will duck hunt again.

Deer and waterfowl hunting have become sports for the upper crust folks, of which I am not. Unless I want to hang out with the peasants on public land.
Not serious LOL.

all but given up on duck hunting juice isn't worth the squeeze
100% public deer hunter and the last few years have gotten as excited as ever especially bringing my little one we scout together and that's the funnest part
if I had to sit in a pine thicket overlooking a corn feeder that spreads a half pound of corn a day or a 1/10th acre food plot I would quit
public land deer hunting is not terrible if you put time in and especially if you bowhunt

Agreed...
I have sole access to hundreds of private acres (100 of which are my own) and my favorite trips are always on public land. I just like the wilderness experience that can be had on national forest properties.

and being able to hunt a new spot each time cant do that on most leases
public duck hunting used to be my thing but one too many times had someone beat you to a spot the next day after they hear you shooting and also the sounds of mud motors drive me mad

was discussing this with two coworkers last week they are getting off their lease
I think the timber companies upped the price one too many times and the price people are willing to pay for marginal deer hunting land has finally reached its maximum point

Timber companies dont care. It is marginal profit compared to the liability they incur.

Just pick up 10 to 40 acres somewhere and forget about the lease. Focus on fruit/white oak trees, hinge-cut several areas and don’t worry about the food plots unless you just enjoy doing it. Hinge cutting will provide plenty of browse and cover to hold deer. Won’t even need the 4 wheeler unless you just want to hang onto it.

I’ve hunted public land hunting deer once in my life and I’ll never do it again. I would quit hunting deer before hunting public land. I grew up hunting public land for ducks and quit doing that about 7 years ago but would still go if invited by someone who knows the area.

Not intentionally, but here we are.

I did - leases are getting to expensive and boys really aren’t into it. Sold the wheeler this year, it was collecting cob webs, kept the guns. I get invited to hunt a couple times a year on the refuge if I want to go and get some meat for the freezer.

After I killed my first one over bait, I said frick this.
This aint hunting. Might as well kill a fricking cow, more meat.

Hunt public, depending on your job maybe even hunt week days. Frick feeding deer, spend a few days scouting in September and you’ll find the deer. Buy your license, gas money and you set. Deer are dumb as shite, you can kill them w/o spending much money.

Best memories with my dad was this in public land, I do the same with my boys. Love taking them scouting. Hell we went to the woods the other day to pick some wild plums just for the frick of it, came upon some hogs and I didn’t have anything on me. Momma hog didn’t like us and came towards us. I told my boys to run as fast as they can to the truck. They were all confused and completely ignored me Hogs left us alone and we walked in a different direction, was a good story to piss wife off with though when we got back.
