Game 1—Mia vs LSU

Was lucky enough to find this site while looking around for takes on Mia vs LSU.
I’m a reasonable Cane fan from the Testaverde days. I’ve been checking out some of the comments and figured I’d join in.
My opinion is that LSU is being overlooked due to the coach and loss of star RBs. Hey, it’s public perception but not so sure it’s reality. That defense will be nasty. If the offense can gel and keep the defense off the field I think LSU could be excellent.
The first game of the season vs a formidable opponent typically comes down to mistake free ball and gaining early confidence. I’ve seen some posts that Miami is overvalued, weak, etc due to close wins and late year skid. I’ll share my optimistic and pessimistic views. Winning close games was great for us. In the previous 5-7 years we would of lost those games. We found ways to win which built confidence. Towards the end of our schedule we had lost our best playmakers at RB, WR and TE. If we had them I do believe we don’t lose 3 straight and do beat Wisconsin. Now, the pessimism in me. Without those players you saw what happened. We had and have depth issues.
Although we have brought back some stud athletes on both sides of the ball our QB is mediocre at best. He’ll be a major key to us winning or losing. If your defense rattles him early and mistakes are made it could get ugly.
If he comes out poised and accurate we have the playmakers to make plays.
Coach Richt understands SEC football so we won’t be taking this team or game lightly. At the same time I think some of the comments about Miami are unwarranted and we shouldn’t be looked at as being taken lightly either.
Would love to capture some thoughts from Tiger Nation.

Pretty fair assessment. Most have no idea what to expect offensively from LSU, while Miami is being given the benefit of the doubt. If LSU’s defense starts fast it could be a blowout, but if they give up a drive here and there and the offense sputters you could be looking at a similar game to our bowl against ND.

I think your defense is full of NFL players. The LB, CB and S. I think I read about a DL guy too.
I like that WR y’all have coming back from injury, along with the 1,000 yard rusher and his back up is pretty good.
Your QB is average to above average, but has experience and is mature.
I think it’ll be closer than some other LSU fans predict, but we pull it out.
LSU- 24
Miami - 23
Good luck

I believe this game will come down to which staff makes the best halftime adjustments

Should be a good game and down to the wire. Anyone that thinks this will be a blowout either way is infected with homerism.

Prepare for your QB to get rattled...

FYI you need to edit your thread title to include more info or your thread will get anchored.

I’m anticipating a low scoring defensive slugfest. Whichever team’s QB handles the big stage/defensive pressure/first game challenges best wins. This will be Burrows first start of his career and its prime time against an aggressive, high turnover defense. There is no way of knowing how he will perform under those lights. As you mentioned Rosier is a crap shoot and could also easily fold against a similarly talented, aggressive LSU D.
Hopefully we can establish a decent run game as y’all have a proven back to lean on. That’s probably the biggest advantage for Miami. I’m believing Edwards-Helaire will be that guy for us but that’s still an unknown.
All things considered it’s hard to bet against LSU in Dallas with this kind of defense but could go either way. I think a late turnover and field goal seals it 20-17. Win, lose or draw I will be a present and inebriated witness.

If this is the case and we have a lead UM is in trouble Aranda's adjustments are usually spot on.

Close, low scoring game. Flip a coin

I think it will be a good game. All we know is that we'll have a good defense. None of us know what our offense will look like. If Burrow turns out to be good we could surprise some people. If not we'll be mediocre.
It has to be hard for Miami to prep for us though. No film exists on most of our offensive personnel or scheme.

LSU wins by 10. Can't remember the last time we lost in Dallas

Great post. Everyone here thinking LSU will blow out Miami will be sadly mistaken. Y’all have some great players and richt is a lot better coach than O. LSU will win imo but I don’t think it will be a blow out

After Ahmmon Richards, how do y’all look at WR?
I know Richards was a pre-season All-American and y’all have recruited very well.
How much will Lingard contribute in a crowded backfield and Homer already established as a really good back. Will he RS?
