hello, run bros.

I think I am going to tackle the marathon again, and I am looking for a training plan. I'd like to continue lifting and also cycling for cross-training. My goal will be to finish in four hours (which was my original goal, but I missed it by 16 minutes).

As some of you may know, I did the three-day running training (sprint run, medium distance MP run, long slow run) for the Houston marathon. By the end of the training, I was running a fourth day because I didn't feel prepared enough. Nevertheless, I did not meet my time goal, but there were other factors weighing into that other than simply a training plan.

I look forward to your suggestions and thank you for all the help

I've never done a marathon but I swear by Daniels Running Formula. You could modify one of his marathon plans and hit your goal easily if you were 16 minutes off with just 3 days a week. His plans focus on 2 days a week of "quality" workouts, one being a long run and the other shorter intervals. The rest of the week is easy running so you can swap in cycling or cross training for those days and you're set.

If you are busy (like we all are) use Jay Johnson's Simple Marathon Training book. It combines strength training before/after runs but they can be done quickly. I used it for my first and had a great experience. I ran the last 10K like my hair was on fire. Felt strong af.
