Most box stores have a policy of NOT engaging a shoplifter and they terminate an employee that does. Not saying I agree with the policy but the thought process is an employee, bystander, or the employee engaging the shoplifter can get hurt in the altercation, resulting in claims much more expensive than the merchandise being stolen...

Lowes, Academy, Wal-Mart, Dicks, etc all have similar policies...

I understand that and it makes sense with a dude stealing a Snicker's bar.

It doesn't make sense when a dude is threatening to shoot people and then runs out of the store with a stolen gun.

You’re spot on regarding the company policies not to engage. The problem is that in many larger cities, the police have implemented policies to no longer respond to shoplifting complaints. So, these criminals get away easy.

Academy sports looks bad if true. I can see it now people come in steal guns mags and ammo and just run out the door lol

Exactly. It’s a liability issue. If they green light it, they have to pay millions if it goes wrong.

I blame the insurance companies.
